The Roanoke Valley Master Gardeners have begun building and selling rain barrels to assist gardeners with water conservation measures. Placing a rain barrel under your downspout can help catch and store rain water, which you can later use in the garden as needed. Even though the recent rains have helped lessen some of the pressure put on gardeners by the drought, water conservation remains important and rain barrels can help greatly. The barrels are available for $40 and can be purchased at the Roanoke Valley Farmers Market and at the Halifax Agricultural Center.
