Local Volunteer Participates in State-Level Cooperative Extension Retreat

Chuck Moseley of Burke County participated in a three-day joint retreat of the State Advisory Council for North Carolina Cooperative Extension, North Carolina State University and the Strategic Planning Council, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, North Carolina A&T State University, held June 3 – 5th in Winston-Salem.

The 33-member North Carolina State University Advisory Council includes volunteer leaders from across North Carolina who help provide policy direction for Cooperative Extension as does the membership of the Strategic Planning Council for North Carolina A&T State University.

The program included remarks by Dr. Jon Ort, director of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, based at North Carolina State University and Dr. Ray McKinnie, administrator of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Program, based at North Carolina A&T State University.

Mark Tucker, Forsyth County Extension director, welcomed the group, along with Dr. Bob Edwards, North Central District Director and George Quigley, Chairman of the State Advisory Council and Perry Graves, Chairman of the Strategic Planning Council.

The group learned about the production of biodiesel by Mr. Sam Brake, an Advisory Council member, 27/9/3 – A Template for Critical Communications by Ms. Eleanor Stell from the Personal and Organizational Development Department at NCSU, a new purple sweet potato from Stokes County by Mr. Michael Hylton, Interim County Extension Director along with many other great speakers and a wonderful tour of the Children’s Home and the Arboretum at Tanglewood.
