Hoke County Volunteers Honored

The annual County of Hoke/City of Raeford Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at West Hoke Middle School Cafeteria. Volunteers were recognized and honored with dinner, certificates and plaques.
Keith Walters, County Extension Director with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, welcomed everyone. James Leach, Chairman of the Hoke County Board of Commissioners, John K. McNeill III, Mayor, City of Raeford and Rosa McAllister-McRae, Chairman of Hoke County School Board brought greetings. The invocation was lead by James Leach. Volunteers in each category received a certificate and the winner in each category also received a plaque. Kim Gray of Hoke County Schools, Stella Edens of Hoke County Finance, James Leach and John K. McNeill III handed out the certificates and plaques. Dr. Freddie Williamson, Superintendent, Hoke County Schools brought closing remarks. Special thanks was extended to the County of Hoke, City of Raeford, North Carolina Cooperative Extension and Hoke County Schools for sponsoring this event each year, the committee of Keith Walters, Dianne Scarboro, Betty Smith, Stella Edens, and Kim Gray, the Hoke County Schools Nutrition Department for the delicious dinner and Patricia Hollingsworth for taking pictures.
Individual Category nominees were Therese Gill, Shakera Graham, Marshall Jackson, Willie McMillian and Mary Owens. Willie McMillian was the winner in the individual category. Youth Category nominees were Brandy McPherson and Dustin Powell. Brandy McPherson was the winner in the youth category. Senior Citizen Category nominees were Robert Conoly, Mary Fowler, Grace McDonald and Josh Scull. Josh Scull was the winner in the Senior Citizen Category. Group/Team Category nominees were Lloyd and Mary Brewer and Hoke County Civic League Youth Council. Winner in the Group/Team category was Hoke County Civic League Youth Council. Kay Thomas Category nominees were Lynette Dial, Mary Fowler, Grace McDonald and Josh Scull. Grace McDonald was the winner in the Kay Thomas Category.
