Dairy Information Easy to Locate on ISU Extension Web Site

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State University Extension dairy team wants dairy producers and agri-businesses working with dairy producers to have the most recent research-based information available. To do that, they have revamped their Web site, www.extension.iastate.edu/dairyteam and arranged it for easy navigation.

“People looking for dairy news and facts will find this Web site very helpful,” said Lee Kilmer, ISU Extension dairy specialist. “We are bringing research-based information from Iowa State University and other institutions to one site so people in the industry can make well-informed decisions and stay current on trends.”

Kilmer and team have organized the site so visitors can easily link to articles, publications, events, videos and news items right from the home page. A line of tabs across the top of the page takes visitors to events, publications, conference proceedings and dairy team contacts. A left-hand column separates information into five categories – business management, buildings and parlors, raising livestock, physiology and closely related issues. Each side-bar category links to subsections that further break down the available information.

At the center of the home page, the dairy team places news items that they identify and update on a regular basis. “The team approach gives us a good understanding of current issues and events that are taking place in and around Iowa,” said Kilmer. “We link to Extension’s DAIReXNET site to include a national perspective of the dairy industry. It makes national dairy news a quick link from our home page.”

Kilmer said that more links will be added as they are completed and the site will be updated on a regular basis. In addition to Kilmer, the dairy team includes campus and field livestock, forages and farm management specialists.
